Cebu City Little League to open Aug. 8 in Labangon

COACHES and organizers of the 1st Cebu City Little League Series have decided to postpone the tournament’s opening to Aug. 8 at Labangon Elementary School.

In a meeting last Saturday, M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF) executive director Eddie Ybañez along with the coaches decided to move the Aug. 1 opening due to time constraints.

“We just came from the championship of the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Cup – Inter-School Developmental Basketball, so we are left with little time to prepare for the opening of the little league, which brought us to postpone it to Aug. 8,” Ybañez said.

The meeting was attended by coaches and teachers from the participating public elementary schools, which include Punta Princesa Elementary School, Labangon ES, Hipodromo ES, City Central School, Canduman ES, and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

The tournament, backed by the Cebu City Government, will also see Paknaan ES, Lapu-Lapu City Elementary School and a selection team made up Carcar elementary pupils.

“We also moved the venue from DBTC to Labangon Elementary School due to its accessibility. We would like to extend our thanks to its principal Mr. Rey Lanete for offering to host our tournament. Don Bosco will be our alternative venue if ever Labangon will not be available,” added Ybañez.

The thrust to revive the flailing batted sports in Cebu was brought to Ybañez’ attention by DBTC PE consultant Bro. Jose Maria Aberasturi. RCM
