Thursday, August 05, 2004 Toral: Maximizing Google By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
FRIENDLY. One of the friendly small and medium enterprise initiatives I’ve seen online recently is Google.com’s AdWords (http://adwords.google.com) and AdSense (http://www. google.com/adsense).
Google AdWords allows any website owner to market a website online and set a budget that one is willing to spend. This differs from traditional websites that charge a fixed monthly fee for advertising where the value is hardly quantifiable.
When one posts an ad through Google AdWords, this not only appears in Google.com when the keywords typed by an Internet user match your advertisement, it also shows in various websites that are members of the Google AdSense system. You are charged only when your ad is clicked by a site visitor.
Another interesting service that Google offers is AdSense. This site allows any website, visited and approved by Google, to display the Google banner ad and get paid for every click. This can help in generating passive revenue to anyone’s website.
From a personal experience, AdSense is the best affiliate revenue generating system where one can earn from site visitors. These two Google offerings have resulted in a lot of websites displaying Google banner ads today.
However, website owners who charge for advertising should be cautious in joining AdSense and posting the Google banner ad in their website. If you have paid banner ads in your site by clients, putting Google ads can dilute your website. It is not fair to your direct clients who pay to advertise in your site to see their ad in the same page as Google AdSense ads.
This can discourage future direct advertisement placements. Entities will end up being better off using Google AdWords.
They key to Internet advertising in using Google AdWords is by coming up with keywords that match the item you want to sell online. You can use this keyword suggestion tool at http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ that can help you identify the keywords that generate the greatest results in search engines today.
The Internet is pervasive. One can’t relax as competition is global. Your competitor can someday just come up with a special tool that will impact revenue sources of websites worldwide. (email: janette@digitalfilipino.com.)
