Thursday, August 12, 2004 Serna: Bing did fabulously well as fashion show director By Roger Serna Sounds & Images
She may not be quite visible these days, but Bing Pabular, former Mutya ng Pillipinas first runner-up and sought-after runway and commercial model and cover girl (both in the Philippines and abroad) is still very much around.
She’s presently working at the front desk of an uptown hotel and is enjoying every minute of her new job.
Just recently, her pretty face and familiar name were splashed on newspaper ads as the choreographer-director of the fashion show, which was held at the Gaisano Main and Gaisano Country Mall.
At the mall show, Bing was unsuccessful in her effort to be inconspicuous. For who can ignore that face which launched so many glossy magazine covers and many TV commercials? True to form, she efficiently supervised the musical scoring of the show (and even danced along) as well as the on-ramp projection of the models.
Rosemarie Gaisano said that the models were neophytes. They were indeed fresh faces (except for one of the four male models), including the balikbayan granddaughter of a Cebu city barangay captain.
Overall, Bing did a splendid job. The clothes enhanced the models’ good looks and even made them look better. Surprisingly, the clothes turned out to be incredibly low priced despite their classy appearance.
When asked, Bing smilingly answered that she’s still open to modeling stints if good offers come along. She should be, otherwise that queenly gait and fabulous face will be sorely missed in the fashion scene as it is now.

Speaking of beauty queens, Ms. Cebu 2002 Melanie Ediza was the guest of honor (along with former Consolacion Mayor Max Malagar) at the formal opening of Body and Sole-Consolacion branch last Sunday. The branch is owned by young entrepreneur Jerome Alavado.
The affair was graced by business partners Johnie and Flor Lim and Al and Malu Yap of Body and Sole-Raintree Mall, the recent National Shoppers’ Choice awardee as the No. 1 massage spa in the Visayas.
At the cocktails, Melanie excitedly divulged that she will be working in the US, a job that will snatch her away from the local scene for six months. She said she’ll be back right after her contract expires.
What if her contract will be renewed immediately after? What will happen to the Cebuanos’ wish for another national beauty queen to emerge from their fold after current Bb. Pilipinas-World Karla Bautista’s reign will be over?
Melanie’s manager, Chekoy Tomol III, assures those around here that his ward will really be back, otherwise, a “curse” will fall on her, something that will require her to wear a scalloped-designed brassiere instead of the usual one.
That retort brought the house down.
