Thursday, August 12, 2004 Teddy issues order to stop drag races
THE Mandaue City Government is taking a step further in its fight to stop drag racing activities on the two Mandaue-Mactan Bridges.
In his Aug. 8 executive order, Mayor Thadeo Ouano ordered the City’s traffic body to implement measures to prevent such activity from taking place on the two links.
Ouano also requested the City Council to pass an ordinance imposing penalties on participants of drag races.
The mayor issued the executive order following the request of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and the Regional Development Council (RDC).
The RDC had recommended to the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue to pass an ordinance penalizing those who are engaged in drag racing by confiscating their vehicles in favor of the government.
Ouano and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza were urged to “do something” and come up with sanctions against those involved in drag races.
RDC members passed the resolution last May after the Mactan Cebu Bridge Management Committee expressed concern over drag races held on the two bridges. AAG
