Thursday, August 12, 2004 Bacolod squad secures top spot
MARAPARA led the opening-day leaders of the 18th Rotary Golfing Fellowship Foundation golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club.
The Bacolod squad pooled together 116 points to pace the Founder’s division with Paquito Infante (40 points), Alex Montibano (39) and Pike Braga (37) scoring for the team. Carlo Gamban’s 36 points was not counted in the three-to-score event.
Individual play
Also sharing the spotlight were Cebu East Team, Mandaue Team and Cebu Uptown Team, which secured the top spot in their respective divisions.
In the individual play, Edwardson Chiu and Al Alcibar’s 42 points tops the Class A (0-15 handicap) field, trailed by Infante’s 40.
Class B (16-21) and Class C (22-26) saw three players tied for the top spot.
Top team total
Henry Dy, Jonathan Yu and Benedict Uy each recorded 42 points for the Class B lead, while Jun Caoili, Rolando Sacramento and Juanito Luna etched the same score for the Class C leadership.
Individual division leaders Yu, Caoili and Dy, on the other hand, put together the day’s-best 126 points to propel Mandaue Team to the President’s division top spot. John Casas’ 35 points did not count for the Mandaue squad, which is trailed by Cebu 2 Team’s Jacinto Ligot (38), Orly Israel (37), Sergio Romero (37) and Edgar Chiongbian (35), who are at second with 112 points.
Cebu Uptown logged 113 points to pluck to top spot of the Fellowship division. Sacramento’s 42 points led the squad, which also got 38 from Cres Rocamora and 33 from Goering Paderanga, while Robinson Robins’ 29 did not count.
At joint second are Cebu 1 Team and Cebu Port Center 6, which both tallied 107 points. Members of Cebu 1 are Jed Reyes (38), Jose Soberano (36), Jose Suaco (33) and Angel Ocubillo Jr. (22), while making up Cebu Port Center are Bendedict Uy (42), Joel Valer (35), Jeffrey Estrella (30) and Wilson Yu (28).
