PRO 7 may yet bag award

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has a good chance of grabbing the best PRO of the year award nationwide.

The Philippine National Police hierarchy’s Annual General Inspection (AGI) team found the performance of the PRO 7, both in management and operations, as very satisfactory.

The team revealed its findings during last Friday’s three-hour exit briefing.

Passed

One of the AGI team leaders even said that the PRO 7 passed the week-long general inspection with “flying colors.”

The recently concluded AGI kicked off with the operational readiness security inspection test and evaluation (Orsite) wherein PRO 7 held mock scenes such as crowd dispersal, rescue operations, hostage-taking and arrest of armed persons at Camp Sergio Osmeña quadrangle last Monday.

Strong points

Among others, the AGI team observed that PRO 7’s strong points are its innovative crime-fighting program and the local area network (LAN), a region-wide computerized system of communication to its field units.

With this system, police stations in far-flung areas can send and receive reports through electronic mails and can have access to the Internet.

Beyond control

The AGI team, however, noted that some police offices, which include Cebu City and Cebu PNP, have dilapidated buildings, while others reportedly lacked personnel and firearms.

PRO 7 Director Rolando Garcia explained these deficiencies were already beyond the PRO 7’s control, as funding allocations for firearms, personnel and building construction depend on the PNP hierarchy.

For the first time last year, the PRO 7 was among the top five contenders for the best PRO of the year award.

Police officials viewed it as already, a great feat for PRO 7 because there are now 17 PNP regional offices vying for the award. GC
