Sunday, August 15, 2004 Caidic still deadly with the trey
LEGENDARY Philippine Basketball Association snipers Allan Caidic, Elmer Cabahug, Al Solis and Rhoel Gomez joined current PBA hotshots Rob Johnson, Ronald Tubid, and Brandon Cablay in copping major plums in the PBA All-Star Skills Competition at the Mandaue Sports Complez.
Caidic, one of the deadliest shooters the PBA has ever seen, registered a team-high 18 points en route to leading the PBA Legends to a 55-43 win over a team made up of Ren Ren Ritualo, Mike Cortez, Mark Caguioa and Tubid – the top four finishers of the PBA’s 3-point shootout earlier.
Cabahug, Solis, and Gomez combined for 38 points for the PBA legends, who were in danger of losing to their younger counterparts before Caidic put on an awesome 3-point shooting exhibition.
Shell’s Tubid, on the other hand, won the PBA 3-point shootout against FedEx’s Ritualo via an 18-16 tiebreak after both players posted identical 19 points in the final round. Ritualo earlier finished head and shoulders above the field by posting a phenomenal 20-point performance in the elimination round.
Purefoods’ Rob Johnson defended his Thunderbird Obastcle Course Challenge championship, while Alaska’s Cablay won the crown in the PBA Trick Shot Challenge.GCM
