Highlights of the All-Star sidelights
By Mike T. Limpag

THE BIGGEST scene-stealer in yesterday’s Philippine Basketball Association All-Star extravaganza at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Center wasn’t any former star – but a three-man “sling shot” crew.

After a break in the eliminations of the skills contest, the PBA proceeded to the usual promo where in the they give away shirts to the crowd through sling shots.

The first two shots failed to get off, the third shot hit the ceiling and the fourth shot went through the railings into the parking area. That should have been a cue for the crew to just throw the shirts.

Still they proceeded with the sling shot, and it was a perfect hit to one of the stadium lights – knocking one bulb off and sending a loud gasp from the crowd as it fell a few feet away from Allan Caidic and the rest of the PBA board of governor.

In a pre-game interview, Rob Wainwright said he wanted to get a rhythm for the 3-point contest – and that he did. Sinking five of his first six shots only to be told to start again as the timer didn’t run coincide with his start.

After slamming the ball in frustration, Wainwright did and scored only 12 as he missed his first five.

Another PBA All-Star got a blooper award. This player strutted into the female comfort room and was told by one reporter that it was the ladies’ bathroom.

The All-star said sheepishly, “Oh s___t, I’ve been going there since we started.”
