Sunday, August 15, 2004 Lancer squads top Warriors at home; USC ladies win By Karla I. Paner Sun.Star Correspondent
Later in the day, the Green Lancers did what was expected after an easy 83-56 victory over the Warriors in the Men’s division.
The USC Women’s team, meanwhile, prevented a shutout of the Carolinian teams as the Lady Warriors beat Cebu Institute of Technology, 76-42, with Fairlette Ceniza wowing the crowd with her finesse and aggressiveness in attacking the basket.
Ceniza topped the game with 15 points as teammate Jessamine delos Reyes made a living in the low-post area finishing with 14 points.
The Baby Lancers’ go-to-guy Junjun Lasala provided consistent scoring from the inside to finish with 14 points, while another veteran player, Jaypee Maunes, added 11.
The Baby Warrior’s relied on the hot-shooting Gene Noel Gallarde as UV’s defense focused on ML Kwarta Padala Inter-School MVP Kevin Jake Arresgado, who was limited to only four points.
In the predictable seniors game, the Lancers forced the Warriors to take outside shots as they closed out the shaded lane, holding the boys of Jay Ramirez scoreless for the first five minutes of the game before Ahmann Paul Tagalog drilled in a 3-pointer to light the scoring board for the Warriors.
The win was the Lancers’ 37th consecutive victory in the Cesafi.
