Sta. Elena leads Diamond div.

CARINA Ricamonte tallied the day’s best score of 51 points to boost Sta. Elena to the top of the Diamond division after the opening round of the 2004 WGAP Luzvimin Golf Invitational at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

Vinice Godio added 45 points for the top squad.

Second-running Southwoods has 169 points behind Carmelette Villaroman’s 49. Wackwack is third with 166 points.

Cebu Country Club banked on its young guns to take fourth spot with reigning CCC Ladies champion Maite Unchuan scoring 46 points and Kathleen Uy adding 44 to lead the squad to a 164-point output. Jyra Wong scored 38, while Mercy Bejar scored.

Unchuan is a product of the CCC jungolf program, while 14-year-old Uy, the reigning CCC jungolf champion, and 15-year-old Wong are two of the toughest junior golfers in the club.

In the Ruby division, Alta Vista banked on Sandra Smits’ 43 points to take second spot with 145 points, just one off top team Villamor.

Josephine Siguan also added 40 points for AVGCC while Joan Castillo and Gina Yap added 35 and 29 points.

Negros is at third with 141 points, while Bacolod is fourth with 140.

In the Pearl Division, Riviera took the first spot with 140 points, while Baguio and the Philippine Navy are at second and third with 135 and 124 points, in that order.

The competition is on its second round today and will close out with the final 18 holes tomorrow. (ML)
