HERE’S a treat for Cebuano martial-arts enthusiasts.

In what should be Cebu’s biggest tournament of its kind this year, the Philippine Yaw-Yan Footboxing League is slated to host a blockbuster mixed martial arts tournament on Oct. 9 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The event, dubbed “Only the Strong Survive” is expected to live up to its Darwin-esque ideology with an impressive, potentially-explosive six-fight lineup of five-round, main event matches.

Top draw

Headlining the card is the highly-anticipated encounter between Yaw-Yan’s Ryan “The Real Deal” Solana and Arcomjukai Kickboxing’s Jermin Lazo in the 147-pound division.

The 140lb showdown between Yaw-Yan’s Gerry Adolfo and Melvin Ordoña of CMAC is another promising duel between two of Cebu’s best fighters.

The other main event matches are Edhel “Chikiting” Cuizon of Yaw-Yan Martial Arts versus Durex Kickboxing Club’s Adamson Torbiso (125lbs) and Boyet Azarcon versus Jonathan Arobo of Durex Kickboxing Club.

Three-rounders

Also in the main feautre are Rene “The Iron Man” Noblefranca versus John Perez of Cagayan De Oro’s World Sikaran Martial Arts (130lbs), and Reynaldo Combate of Multi-Style Martial Arts versus Jay Fernandez of Davao City’s Western Kickboxing Club (130lbs).

A slew of three-round encounters are also slated in the event, which is also backed by Mixed Martial Arts Entertainment Inc. Tickets are pegged at P100 for ringside seats, P75 for upper box, P50 for lower box, and P 25 for general admission. (GCM)
