Gorres foe to avenge stablemate’s setback

VENGEANCE is the only thing that matters to WBO No.8 Sairung Suwanasil when he faces hometown boy Z Gorres on Saturday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

The veteran Thai fighter is eyeing to regain the honor for his Kokiet Boxing Gym, which was tarnished when stablemate Saensak Singmanassak lost to Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista last Aug. 17 by a sensational second-round knockout.

Sairung eyes to challenge Bautista for the WBO Asia-Pacific title once he’s through with Gorres.

In return, Sairung is risking his lofty world ranking to the US-bound Gorres.

The 29-year-old Suwanasil dangles an alarming 31-4 win-loss record. He is on an 18-fight winning roll spread over six years since losing by decision to Indonesia Admad Fandi way back in December 1998.

“Actually this fight is not only between Gorres and Suwanasil, but between the two boxing stables, ALA Boxing Gym and the Kokiet Boxing camp.

“It seems Kokiet couldn’t accept the loss of his boy to Bautista and has offered his ace fighter, Suwanasil, to fight Gorres and avenge Singmanassak’s defeat,” said promoter Sammy Gello-ani.

The seasoned Thai journeyman slew many Filipino boxers including Bobby Pacquiao, Sherwin Manatad, Mark Sales, Junie Gaabon and Eddie Penaso among others.

His ring experience includes a defeat to the former WBA world champion Jesus Salud.

Gorres is undoubtedly in for a tough battle and will be facing his toughest test to date since he turned pro on March 31, 2001.

A loss to Suwanasil will derail his US trip, in which he is slated to leave with the group of Manny Pacquiao on Sept. 8, just a few days after the fight.
