Wednesday, September 01, 2004 Phone Pals ‘wanted the Voyager’
HAD the Red Bull Barakos not made a move towards acquiring Vergel Meneses from the Federal Express, the Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals would have offered the “Aerial Voyager” to play for their fold instead.
Ricky Vargas, Talk ‘N Text’s PBA board representative, revealed recently that they have sent offers to Meneses and that the latter, according to Vargas, wanted to play for the Phone Pals.
Vargas said he mentioned to FedEx team manager Lito Alvarez that the Phone Pals wanted Meneses.
However, he was told that Meneses already had an ongoing negotiation with Red Bull, where the high-flying star inked a one-and-a-half-year contract worth P5 million.
“We let go when they told us their deal with Red Bull was okay,” Vargas said.
After failing to acquire Meneses, Vargas said the Phone Pals’ head coach Joel Banal is now focusing his sights on acquiring 6-6 Don Camaso, released recently by the Alaska Aces to the free agency market.
“We’ve made him an offer. Coach Joel sees something good in him.” (JSV)
