Wednesday, September 01, 2004 Suico back in ring after loss to Fana
AFTER suffering the first setback of his career, Cebuano Golden Boy Randy “Kumo’ng Bato” Suico will try to realign himself in the international arena as he defends his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) junior lightweight belt on Oct. 16 here.
Promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud will showcase rib-cracking action between Suico and challenger Mohammad Ibrahim Aroby of Indonesia in a 12-round encounter at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel grand ballroom.
Aroby, ranked No.4 among all the 130-pound fighters in the OPBF, holds a decent 14-1-2 win-loss-draw card with seven KO wins.
Suico, 21-1, peppered with 18 KOs, will gun to reclaim his status in the world ratings.
The Mandaue City native is coming off a frustrating defeat at the hands of South African Mzonke Fana last May 29 in an ordered box-off to determine the challenger to WBC champion Erik Morales.
With a new resolve, Suico eyes to score another a victory to regain his erstwhile lofty status in the WBA and WBC bodies.
However, Aroby could be a tough opponent as the 23-year-old Indonesian super featherweight champion, who has defeated Filipino opponents including veteran Samuel Duran and Sonny Sordila, is at the top of his game.
Former OPBF super bantamweight champion Jimrex Jaca will also see action in the undercard of the international promotion. (RCM)
