Cebu International School footballers shine

CEBU International School stomped its class in the Under-7 and Under-8 age groups of the Aboitiz Group Foundation Football Cup at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit field Saturday.

James Cole and Christian Ugarte sizzled in the offensive end in leading CIS’ Under-7 squad in blanking out SHS-J, 4-0, to log its second win in the tournament.

Cole opened the floodgates after connecting in the second minute and made another goal three minutes later. Ugarte made it, 3-0, in the seventh and completed the blow out in the 19th.

The win puts the team on top of Bracket A with six points holding the only clean record in the group.

In the other Under-7 matches, James Balao scored twice, powering Springdale 3 to an easy 6-2 win over Don Bosco Technology Center, its first win in the event after enduring an opening-day loss.

Springdale 1 also nailed its first win with an impressive 7-0 thrashing of DBTC 1 behind Lorenzo Ceniza’s hat trick.

Ceniza found the back of the net in the second, fourth and 15th to tow his team to an easy win.

In the 8-Under group, Mark Schroeder showed up with his A-game to lead CIS to a 3-0 cakewalk over DBTC 3 and a spot on top of Group C at 2-0.

Canduman also scored its second win as it dumped SHS-J 2, 3-0, to settle for second, trailing CIS by only one goal.

Vince Duazo, Marlon Ewayan, Erwin Cortes each scored once for the win.

Springdale 1 also kept its record spotless after with a 2-0 escape over DBTC-2 for its second straight win.

Lorenzo Ugarte connected in the eighth minute, while Pericles Dakay struck in the 20th minute to seal the victory.

The age-group competition will run until Oct. 9. ML
