Homebakers reborn
Where does one drink a King Kong and slurp the Milky Way? Aurelia L. Castro leads the way.
From plastic to wooden chairs and tables; from an ordinary bakeshop to a cozy, convenient one - Homebakers now has a newly-renovated store along Juana Osmeña street.
The bakeshop’s owners decided to light up, retouch, and put color and music into the place. The total physical make up creates an inviting place for cake and pastry lovers to dine in. Plus, another perk they’ve added – they now serve top-quality coffee from imported beans giving a heady aroma to the store.
Another success that started just as a hobby; Rhea Lim used to bake at home. She would bring her cake and pastries to school. Her classmates and friends started to order Rhea’s baked products - not for free, but for some bucks! Thus, the name Homebakers evolved, and business began more than ten years ago for Rhea with mom Lucia, sisters Cindy, Mildred, and brother Bryan.
“Homebakers also means we bake like how your mom or your grandma bakes at home,” said Lucia.
“Our customers used to only be mothers or drivers because we had more of a take out service,” said Cindy. “But now that we’ve made our bakeshop an ideal place for people to hang out, relax, chat, and eat, instantly our customers now come from different age groups,” she added.
Older ones come for their favorite classic choices of bread; adults come for coffee, cakes, and pastries and just to enjoy the soothing ambiance of the shop. Kids come for their favorite Homebakers Milky Way shake that comes in different flavors of chocolate, strawberry or vanilla.
“They love it because it’s pure, delicately soft, and sticky,” said Mildred.
Homebakers used to sell whole cakes, which was not ideal for those who would just like to have a bite. Now, they offer them by the slice- especially packaged for individual customers.
Top sellers are their original mango sans rival, avocado cake, choco decadence, nutty professor cake, capuccino cake, and mango cream pie.
They also serve Kingkong, a soft shake of banana and milk with a choice of chocolate or strawberry flavors with coffee as an optional add-on.
More choices now that this “old place” has been reborn.
