NGO ‘can now get’ remaining grant of P400T from City
A NONGOVERNMENT organization already accounted for the P400,000 financial aid it received from the Cebu City Government.
Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera cleared Pagtam-bayayong Foundation Inc. of any liability. She said contrary to what councilors discussed during a break in last Wednesday’s session, the group will avail only of an P800,000-assistance and not P2 million.
Because Pagtambaya-yong liquidated for the P400,000, the City Accounting Office can now process the release of the remaining P400,000, said Pesquera.
Confusion
Pesquera wanted to clear the confusion that Pag-tambayayong failed to account for the financial aid.
She said she had nothing against the group when the council decided to withdraw a proposal lending Pagtambayayong some P300,000, which was supposed to be facilitated in form of loans to 25 families affected by the South Reclamation Project (SRP).
She merely objected to the move of using the Division for Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) funds for the undertaking because it is not a socialized housing project.
Assistance
“It was only a loan arrangement for the affected families,” she added.
The monetary assistance will be used to develop 11 relocation sites acquired by the Garcia administration.
The foundation will not return the amount, as this is a financial grant and not a loan. They will only submit a liquidation report to account for the funds spent for the undertaking. (GAC)
