Work on north coastal road study, design right on schedule: DPWH
The completion of the alignment study and detailed design for the proposed P1.2 billion Cebu North Coastal Road project is right on schedule, an official from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
Victoria Corpuz of DPWH assured the infrastructure development committee (IDC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 they will meet the October 2005 deadline for both studies, which cost P93.1 million.
The detailed study is ongoing while the alignment study was completed last May 11.
The proposed road is 636 meters long and will run through the coastal areas from Barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City until Barangay Tayud in Liloan town.
Corpuz, who presented updates of the project to the IDC last Friday, said two of the proposed alignments were scrapped because of “economic, technical and social reasons.”
The first alignment traverses a swamp so they decided to forego with it since they could never secure an environmental clearance for the project. The other one was dropped since it will displace 400 families, Corpuz said.
The project includes widening of a 7.4-kilometer road from two to four lanes, the construction of a two-kilometer, four-lane bypass road.
It will also include a bridge across Cansaga Bay and another in Silot Bay.
The alternate route is connected to the Cebu South Coastal Road and will form an eastern coastal route in the province. CYR
