Greenhills defeats chief rival in CEC cup

GREENHILLS Quality Feeds strengthened its hold of the leadership in the 2004 Cebu Eastern College Friendship Cup (CECFC) by posting an 82-70 win Thursday night over rival Echo-Tech Appliance Center at the CEC Gym.

With the league’s elimination round at its tailend and the quarterfinals just a week away, Greenhills superimposed its superiority in the field by logging its eighth win in nine matches – the best mark in the league – after delivering a crushing blow to fellow powerhouse Echo-Tech, which dropped to 7-2.

Donald Ting scored 24 points, while Allan Ting and Wesley Fabian scored 14 apiece for Greenhills, which also benefited greatly from Wilby Tan’s late, yet timely, 12-point fourth-quarter explosion.

Greenhills erected a fat 63-50 halftime edge and maintained its control of the game amid a series of comeback attempts from Echo-Tech in the second half.

Playmaker Anwar Satina and 6-foot-4 center Wellington Yu managed to lead a spirited comeback attempt by Echo-Tech in the final period, but ended in futility as Greenhills kept its poise and rode on Tan’s endgame heroics in clinching the win.

Greenhills (82) – D. Ting 24, A. Ting 14, Fabian 14, W. Tan 12, Lauron 6, R. Tan 5, E. Ong 5, A. Uy 2 Echo-Tech (70) – We. Yu 16, Satina 13, Wa. Yu 10, T. Chua 10, JB Lo 7, A. Bejer 6, Peña 6, Jao 2. GCM
