Retuya earns ticket to X-Games national finals

CEBUANO Charstone Retuya will get the chance to showcase his talent on the national level and, with luck, in an international scale after besting rivals yesterday in the BMX flatland competition of the 2004 Red Horse Beer Super X Series Visayas and Mindanao elimination at the Ayala Center-Cebu south parking lot.

Retuya, who garnered the top ranking after emerging on top of the heap in last Saturdays preliminary action, continued his solid showing in the event presented by Red Horse Extra Strong Beer and supported by Mountain Dew, Lee Pipes, Vans Footwear, Stoked Inc., Urge Magazine, Override, NU-107, RJ 100, Festival Supermall, The Manila Bulletin, Manila Times, and The Freeman, to qualify to the national grand finals on Dec. 9-11 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

The South Luzon leg of the event was held last July 23-25 at the Festival Mall in Filinvest Alabang while the next stop is the North Luzon leg in Dagupan City on Nov. 19-21.

Retuya, of Talisay City, defeated fellow finalists Hugh Dave Esgana, Angelito Tebelin, Roldan Granada, Waldemer Cortes, Johnvanie Rey Villamor, Vince Virgil Torrefranca, Christopher Cañete, Rizal Linao and Alcid Ludia. JSV
