BIR surpasses August goal
PRELIMINARY reports from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) show that the agency has met its collection goal for the month of August.
The agency has collected P43.128 billion, already overshooting its target for the month of P43.114 billion, it said in a statement.
This also marks an increase of 12.21 percent from collections in the same month last year.
Cumulative collections for the first eight months of the year grew 10.59 percent to P311.211 billion from the same period a year ago.
“Increasing collections from quarterly corporate income tax payments helped to offset the downtrend in tax payments from government securities,” the BIR said.
Efforts to optimize the use of its information technology capabilities in detecting tax evasion also boosted collection.
The performance of the BIR is widely watched because the government relies on the bureau for the bulk of its revenues.
Last Tuesday, the Department of Finance said total government August revenues hit P59.7 billion, while January to August revenues hit P462.4 billion. (CTL)
