ALA Boys to face foreigners in Bohol
WBO Asia Pacific bantanweight champion Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista will be coming home to Tagbilaran on Oct. 24 – but this homecoming will be far from a vacation.
Bautista, the province’s hottest boxer at present, will fight in the main event of the Sammy Gello-ani promotion “Pride of Bohol,” backed by Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim and Bohol Gov. Enrico Aumentado.
Gello-ani is currently negotiating for a tough Indonesian fighter to match Bautista in the card, which will also feature Japanese and Korean fighters against top Boholano pugs RP No.1 featherweight and PBF titlist Caesar Amonsot, Melvin Ayudtud, Along Dinoy and some of the island’s upcoming fighters.
Biggest in Bohol
The card is probably the biggest boxing event to hit Bohol. A possible venue is the new Bohol Wisdom School Gym in Tagbilaran City.
Lim recently met with Gello-ani and Bautista’s manager Antonio Aldeguer to sign a pact to have the 18-year-old Bautista fight at home, in appreciation of the Boholanos’ overwhelming support to the WBO champ.
“We are going to showcase the best of Bohol and soon, we will also become the Mecca of boxing like Cebu,” said Lim, who made the move to bring the event to Tagbilaran City. (RCM)
