KO game: CIT, UC clash today for final 4 spot

IT’S another exciting do-or-die rubber match-up in the Senior division today when the University of Cebu Webmasters and Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats scuffle for the last ticket to the semifinals round of the 20040 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the University of San Carlos Gym.

In the Junior division, the pressure is on the Don Bosco Technology Greywolves as they face the undefeated Junior Webmasters in the opening game. A win by the Greywolves will automatically send them to the semis, rendering the remaining junior games nonbearing.

While both teams sport 1-3 win-loss records, the Wildcats, winless in last year’s Cesafi season, enter the game underdogs against the Webmasters, who surprised the University of San Jose-Recoletos in their Aug. 21 encounter.

CIT’s win was at the expense of the eliminated USC Warriors.

The Wildcats’ speed and stamina will be a big factor in the game they pin their offense on Sherwin Solis, Juan Giron and Bryan Berbeseda, the hero in their only win against USC.

Also crucial

Coach Roehl Gomez’s Webmasters have consistently made it past the eliminations the past years, but this time they will have to go through the needle’s eye to get to their familiar spot.

The other Junior division game today between the Baby Panthers and the Wildkittens is another crucial encounter – at least for the Baby Panthers.

A win today will move the Baby Panthers to 3-4, giving them a glimmer of hope of making the semis.

If the Greywolves lose both their remaining games, including today’s encounter against UC, they will be tied with USP at 3-4. In this case, the Baby Panthers will advance by virtue of their 94-84 win over the Greywolves last Aug. 21.

The Wildkittens can either give the Greywolves a free ride to the semis if they beat USP, or play spoilers to the Baby Panthers’ bid to the semis.
