NBI still unable to locate agent accused of murder
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 is still trying to locate an agent who has been declared a fugitive after he escaped from a detention cell in Manila last Sept. 29.
NBI 7 Executive Officer Nelson Bartolome said efforts are being exerted to find and arrest Special Investigator Hermes Son, who is facing a murder case in Negros Oriental for the fatal ambush on SPO2 Leopoldo Elumir, a member of the Dumaguete City-based Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
NBI Central Office arrested Son last Sept. 23 at the premises of the bureau’s headquarters on Taft Ave. upon orders of NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco and an arrest warrant.
However, less than a week after his arrest, Son escaped, taking advantage of a two-hour power outage that hit the area.
Bartolome said the sooner they have Son in their custody, the better because the NBI 7 does not want to be accused of coddling a fugitive.
He also expressed his apprehension that if other police units get to Son first, the latter might get killed in the arrest process.
According to their latest information on Son’s whereabouts, the fugitive agent is in Quezon City. The NBI central headquarters is now verifying this.
The NBI 7, on the other hand, is monitoring his possible presence in Balamban, Cebu and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. (JST)
