Cebu to host Asian meet on Internet link actions

THE Philippines plays host to the “Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3) 2004 Autumn Meeting’’ and “SOI-Asia Steering Committee Meeting’’ on Oct. 5-8 at the University of San Carlos, College of Engineering, Talamban Campus, Cebu City.

The AI3 Meeting is a bi-annual event attended by around 50 international delegates from AI3 member countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

It serves as a venue for the member countries to present the status and activity reports of their different projects; discuss the initiatives of AI3 research working groups; address issues and concerns; and share some of the applications they have developed and/or enhanced for deployment over the AI3 network.

A highlight of the meeting is the participation of Professor Jun Murai of Keio University, a renowned Japanese computer scientist, who is a pioneer in building the Internet in Japan in the 1980s. Key Department of Science and Technology and other government officials will grace the event.

School on the Internet (SOI-Asia) partner institutions also consider this event an opportunity to discuss updates, concerns, and plans of SOI-Asia.

The AI3 is an international research consortium which aims to provide an open Internet testbed for the research and academic community in Asia. It intends to promote sharing of expertise and knowledge among researchers and engineers in Internet technologies to accelerate local Internet development and to develop technologies and applications for the benefit of the Internet community.
