Serna: Bobby Nalzaro, Sheryn Regis to receive awards for exemplary achievements Oct. 12

Fellow government information officer Adie Migallos was surprised to see me filling up my plate from the array of dishes on the buffet table at the Jo household last Sunday. The trip to Balamban for its fiesta was not in my plans for that day but the persuasive power of promo diva Josie
Pereyra to be with her in honoring the invitation of the Jo family was hard to resist.

There I met long-time friend Mike (yes, he who is referred to by some friends of the media as the Bong Revilla of Cebu) and the other members of the family.

Going to the midwest town via the transcentral highway is always a treat for the senses. The fresh and cold atmosphere in that part of the island is always a welcome respite from the humid and dust and smoke-filled ambience of the urban area.

However, the panoramic view of the surrounding places that day was blocked by thick fog that it almost rendered the way to zero visibility. That experience caused us to request TV actor-commercial-model Heinji Tablason, who cheerfully acted as our driver that day, to take the longer route in Naga Uling road on our way home.

It was a fun-filled trip nonetheless.

Trimedia personality Bobby Nalzaro of GMA 7 and diminutive Cebuana diva from Carcar Sheryn Regis are in the list of awardees that will be honored for their exemplary achievements that have become sources of pride to their fellow Cebuanos.

The awarding is one of highlights of the 100th day in service of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The date when she’ll be delivering her State of the Province Address also marks the birthday of the lady governor, thus giving the celebration double significance.

The 100th day of the governor’s term actually falls on the eighth but she decided to deliver her report on her natal day instead. What is four days difference anyway?

Nalzaro won the title of Outstanding Public Affairs Program Host in the recent Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas Golden Dove awards. Regis, on the other hand, won as first runner-up in the Voice of Asia singing competition in Kazahkstan also recently.

These events happened within the first 100 days of the governor’s term. The Phil. Drug Enforcement Agency and Lapu-Lapu police director Louie Oppus are also among the other awardees.

Congratulations to the awardees and advance happy birthday to the governor!

BMG Records Pilipinas recording artist Ayen Munji-Laurel came to Cebu to promote her album, Thankful, with a mini concert at the SM City Cebu entertained plaza last Saturday afternoon.

Ayen’s soothing voice blended well with the beautiful melodies and meaningful lyrics of the songs concocted by some of the country’s best composers (Moy Ortiz, Lito Villaruel, Marc Lopez, Jose Villanueva and Ric Mercado, among them). The carrier single, Kailan Nga Ba? (with a music video scheduled for release soon), is a composition by Edith Gallardo with the arrangement done by Babsie Molina.

The other cuts in the album are Coming Home To You, Kunwari Ka Pa, Kapag Puso‘y Magtampo, About Everyday: Kapag Puso‘y Nagtampo and All About You, to name some.

Recent consumers’ choice awardee Body and Sole Body Massage and Foot Spa continues to expand and conquer not only the Metro Cebu area but in other places in nearby provinces as well.

It has already well-patronized franchise outlets in Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete cities. This Oct. 15, if no last minute changes occur, the Bacolod branch will open its doors to excited and expectant clients. Soon thereafter, another one will welcome patrons in Tagbilaran.

The Bacolod branch opening is slated to be celebrity studded as its owners are leaving no stone unturned to make the event extra special. Keep posted for more details in the meantime.
