Cebu-GTH goes to China crafts fair

AFTER a successful study mission to the Dallas International Gifts & Home Accessories Market last Sept. 11-13 in Dallas, Texas, USA, the Cebu-Gifts, Toys and Housewares Association has embarked on another study mission, this time to the Chinese Arts and Crafts Fair on Oct. 20-30 in Guangzhou, China.

The advent of globalization and trade liberalization has driven Cebu-GTH to come up with activities to enhance the sector’s competitiveness in the world market. One of the activities is the conduct of study, trade and selling missions to strategic target markets aside from the regular trade fair participation and product development.

Three companies joined the study mission to Dallas, Texas: 33 Point 3 Exports, Bon-Ace Fashion Tools and Ian International Industries through a partial subsidy from Cebu-GTH and the Canadian International Development Agency.

The mission revealed that the Dallas show provides a lot of potential buyers and an opportunity to observe the market trends and distribution systems.

There were permanent showrooms of famous buyers like Four Hands, Palacek, Two’s Co. and Department 56 located from the ground floor to the eleventh floor displaying products made in the Philippines. Pier 1 Imports, Neiman Marcus, Bombay Co. and Wal-Mart were some of the notable stores attending the market.

The study mission to Guangzhou, China comes after an invitation from YI-Wu International Exhibition Co. Ltd., organizer of the Chinese Arts and Crafts Fair 2004 (CACFair).

The fair organizer will subsidize the hotel accommodations of the participants: Jenifer Cruz, president of Cebu-GTH; Ramir Bonghanoy, vice president; Pete Sepulveda, marketing committee chairman; Dindo Borromeo of Asian Vine Furniture, and Lilian Tan of Donax International.
