City, barangay officials form basketball team

CEBU City’s Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), the City Council and the Cebu City Sports Commission recently launched a basketball squad ready to compete against alumni and executive ballclubs.

The Guardo-Rama Boys, a brainchild of Cebu City Vice Mayor Mike Rama and CCSC Chairman Jonathan Guardo, who are in the squad, is made up of City legislators, barangay captains and CCSC personnel.

The team was formed to provide an athletic venue for City officials and is a program of the Cebu City Government and the Sports Commission.

No less than multi-titled basketball coach and City Councilor Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba will call the shots, providing a lot of experience to the team led by Rama, City Councilors Edu Rama and Joey da Luz.

Also in the roster are Brgy. Captains Jerry Guardo (Sambag I), Lorenzo Basamot (Camputhaw) and Danilo Alfafara (Cogon-Ramos), Brgy. Councilors Lemar Alcover (Samba I), Reynolds Zamora and Edgar dela Calzada (Sta. Cruz).

Completing the line-up are Brgy. Councilors Andy Borres and Jay-R Carillo (Suba Pasil), Omar Durano, Julino Yap and Noel Godiz (Cogon-Ramos), Rex Millar (Kalubihan) and Rene Toring.

The Guardo-Rama Boys will hold exhibition matches in the City’s barangays against teams from the San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA), Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) and the Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association (Shaba). (RCM)
