Metrobank thrashes Smart, shares top of Division A

METROBANK pulled off a 64-53 win over Smart Wednesday to share the Division A leadership in the 4th Thirsty Hoop Jams inter-company basketball at the Visayan Glass Gym.

In the other match-up, Charlie Pages and Mel Mahinay scored 20 points each to lead Thirsty Fresh Fruits Shakes and Juices to a 76-69 victory over Julies Bakeshop.

Metrobank guard Ahl Bughao led the Bankers with 19 points as teammates Mark Magalle and Joseph Suelto had 10 apiece.

The Steve Nacua-led Smart kept the game close until the final canto when Metrobank’s bench players got into the game.

Nacua scored a game-high 26 points but he was the only one to score in double digits for his team.

Meanwhile, a close match ensued between Thirsty and Julies, but the inside game of bruisers Pages and Mahinay spelled trouble for the latter.

Rivas scored a game-high 28 points, but that wasn’t enough as they dropped to 1-3.

Metrobank (64) – Bughao 19, Magalle 10, Suelto 10, Del Castillo 9, Unahan 6, Pestaño 4, Ybañez 4, Arias 2. Smart (53) – Nacua 26, Brigoli 8, Dela Calzada 5, Gallardo 4, Villamor 3, Noval 2, Alfar 2, Togonon 2, Tomaquin 1, Alvarez 1. Halftime: 35-28. (JSV)
