Ten squads in Hua Ching tabble tennis

A TOTAL of 10 teams will compete in the Hua Ching Invitational Table Tennis tournament, which will open tomorrow at the Clotilde Bldg. in Mandaue City.

Leading the entries is defending champion Hua Ching Foundation Selection Team, which will be bannered by Hua Ching scholar Harold Baring, a three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player.

Trying to press their luck against the star-studded Hua Ching Foundation Selection Team is Lopue Table Tennis Association-Bacolod, which will field two teams.

Other teams

Also competing in the tournament are teams from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Team Cebu led by Jiji Jawad, who placed third in last year’s tournament, Team Cagayan, YMCA and Star Paper.

Hua Ching Foundation, which helps the needy get educational scholarships through table tennis, will put up two or three teams comprising of a selection of the foundation’s 40 scholars.

Prize

Also join the defending champion Hua Ching Selection team Mark Po, who has been Taiwan junior coach for two years, and RP Team player Jojo Almasan.

The champion of the two-day tournament will go home with the Hua Ching trophy aside from the cash prizes.

The event is supported by Hua Ching Foundation president Joseph Uy and other officers. (JSV)
