Software designed to keep Pinoys from being pirated
A MANILA-BASED all-Filipino software development firm has proven that Filipinos can compete with multinational software development firms in product quality as well as in keeping their software engineers.
“We can compete with large software developers as long as we develop products that they don’t have... Local companies can also keep their software developers by paying attention to their needs as incorporated in the software developed by Infostruc-ture for human capital management (HCM),” Infostructure Systems and Consulting Corp. chief executive officer Nilo Poso said.
“We have 100 percent Filipino talents working with us, and we survived without capital inputs from venture capitalists,” he added.
Infostructure, a 13-year-old company developing HCM software—its own brand of software—recently entered the Cebu market, initially investing P100,000. Its office is located in Keppel Center, Cebu Business Park.
Poso encouraged local software developers to develop their own brands of software.
Cebu Software Development Industry Association Inc. president Mike Jurado earlier encouraged software developers in Cebu to create a brand for their software to create a mark in the global information technology market.
He also said one of the problems of the industry is the transfer of software developers from local companies to multinational software development companies.
Poso told a press conference at Wraps in JY Square Discovery Mall Thursday that the transfer of employees from local to multinational firms happens because of the latter’s bigger salaries and benefits.
“This is where our HCM products come in,” he said.
Infostructure HCM software products focus on talent management, knowledge management and workforce management. Companies can apply these to satisfy and keep their employees.
Poso said the company, initially employing three software developers in Cebu, will soon expand its workforce to establish a small research and development facility. The facility will localize its software to suit the requirements of companies in Cebu.
Infostructure currently powers the human resource departments of large companies like Bank of the Philippines Islands, McDo-nald’s Philippines, Phil-am Group, Del Monte Philippines, Texas Instruments, Jollibee and Wyeth Philippines. (JBN)
