Orcullo edges Gallego for Tokyo 9-ball crown
AFTER losing in the Philippine 9-Ball Open, Surigao native Dennis Orcullo redeemed himself by beating compatriot Ramil Gallego, 7-5, to win the Cespa 9-Ball Open in Tokyo Japan yesterday.
Showing their mastery of the sport, the Filipinos ruled the Tokyo Open with an All-Filipino cast in the semifinal round.
Five Pinoys joined the tournament, which attracted almost 100 Asian players. Only Antonio Lining lost in the quarterfinal round after being defeated by another Pinoy.
Easy win
Orcullo had an easy 7-3 win over Elvis Perez, while Gallego got the better of Ronni Alcano to arrange their finals showdown.
The 26-year-old pride of Bislig, Surigao del Sur was recently beaten by Antonio “Ga Ga” Gabica in the finals of the Motolite Philippine 9-Ball Open.
Gabica did not join the tournament, along with other noted Pinoy cue artist Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante.
The win gave Orcullo the top prize equivalent to P150,000, while Gallego settled for P75,000. Perez and Alcano got P25,000 each. (ML)
