Are we ready for another gay mag?
L Quarterly, a new magazine for the gay and bisexual Filipino, has just been launched at Boysie’s Bar in Manila. The glossy, full-color magazine comes from the imprint of Redline Marketing Management and Advertising Company.
L Quarterly is edited by Danton Remoto, who pioneered gay writing in the Philippines when he co-edited the best-selling Ladlad with J. Neil C. Garcia.
Remoto also has the Master’s in Publishing Studies from the University of Stirling in Great Britian and has edited the weekend magazines of the country’s top newspapers.
The first issue of L Quarterly features Boy Abunda; J.M. Cobarrubias, Jigs Mayuga, and Avi Siwa of OUT, the first gay- and lesbian-oriented TV show in the country; and the winners of the Philippine Fashion Design Competition.
The issue also contains Ricky Lee’s excerpt called
“The Unwanted Penis” from his best-selling revue Penis Talks, as well as the love poems of Jaime Dasca Doble.
McNiel Dennison of the Viva Hot Men is on the cover. There are three photo shoots of male models, totaling 40 pages. The first issue also has Safety Tips for Bis and Gays; frequently asked questions of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders; the adventures of Mimi Ganders in Manila’s dark theaters; and a health and advice column.
