Trade mission to Myanmar set

THE Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is inviting interested participants to an outbound trade mission to Myanmar and Thailand.

The mission is being undertaken in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry 7 and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).

This mission has been strongly recommended by President Gloria Arroyo due to the great business opportunities Myanmar can offer Filipino businessmen, the CCCI said.

Expenses for business fora and consultations will be subsidized by the Philippine Government.

CCCI president Robert Go earlier told Sun.Star he had been invited to go on a trip to Laos and Myanmar with Arroyo and furniture makers to look for more wood.

Cebu accounts for the bulk of the country’s furniture exports.

In the first nine months of the year, furniture exports of Central Visayas, of which Cebu is a part, hit $169 million, up 18 percent from the same period a year ago.

Go said Tourism Secretary Ace Durano had also invited him to go to China this month to promote tourism in the Philippines. (CTL/PR)
