Fitness Advantage turns 4
By Noy and Amale Jopson
Play to win

Our Fitness Advantage family recently celebrated our fourth anniversary by organizing a unique adventure race for members, staff and friends. Co-presented by the Urban Goats Adventures, the premier adventure company in Cebu, athe event was participated in by more than 25 four-man teams, or 100 participants.

Having been long-time members of Fitness Advantage, it’s always fun to celebrate the yearly anniversary with our friends. Fitness Advantage offers unique, personalized training programs for all its clients and stands out because all of its instructors are either licensed physical therapists and/or certified fitness professionals. Although we’re lucky if Amale and I are even able to hit the gym more than once a week, time spent there is really quality workout time.

The machines and fitness equipment are first class and the service is always friendly and superb. The best thing about being an FA member is being part of the gym family. The founders of FA, Tina Aboitiz-Juan and Veronica Enriquez, really set the tone for the entire organization and are the heart and soul of the company.

They are the reason why Fitness Advantage is so successful and why the members are continually raving about it. In fact, they are launching new innovative classes like the challenging punch bag aerobics this week.

Innovation is something the Urban Goats are masters of. Arguably the most successful adventure racing team in the country and winning a virtual grand slam of all the top races last year, the Goats have evolved into “super-advocates” of the adventure lifestyle. Headed by James Doran-Webb, or Jim-Bob to his friends, and Philippine Everest Team member, Leo Oracion, the Goats firmly believe that the adventure disciplines and skills one learns in an adventure type race can help individuals tackle the bigger business of living life a whole lot better. To prove this theory, they are offering corporate and school adventure programming training programs that provide ordinary mortals with a taste of what it’s like to compete in an adventure race.

For the Fitness Advantage Challenge, the Goats devised a fun-filled, three-hour, clue-forward race that included rappelling (dropping over a 20-foot ledge with a rope), Tyrolean crossing (hanging from a rope as big as a finger and dragging oneself 30 meters over an insect-infested lagoon), the ski-walk (where team members must walk in unison as they pull their wooden skis with tiny ropes) and many more challenging mind games. The race took the teams from the Fitness Advantage at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, to the Asiatown IT Park, all the way to D’Family Park in Cabangcalan, then back to Waterfront for the finish. It was a resounding success as the teams went out of their comfort zone and left behind all sense of order and experienced the pure adrenalin rush of adventure competition.

Fitness Advantage really turned four with a bang, as afterwards, the members were treated to a fantastic awards party at the gym with live music provided by Johnny! With the winning synergy of two great organizations, I wonder what Fitness Advantage and the Urban Goats will do next year to top this year’s celebration?

For more information on The Urban Goats, contact Jim Webb at 0920-9015855 or Leo Oracion at 343-8627 or 0917-6220272. To experience the best gym in town, drop by Fitness Advantage at the Waterfront Lahug and ask for a complimentary trial workout.
