Speak out: Dark Christmas By Kaira Zoe K. Alburo
President Arroyo recently claimed Christmas would still be merry despite the increases in oil prices, power rates and prices of basic commodities. But what really awaits the grumbling bellies of the people is a dark Christmas.
There can be no cover-up for the worsening condition majority of Filipino peoples are experiencing.
The skyrocketing prices of oil and basic commodities and utilities are very alarming. Government should control these prices to provide immediate relief to ordinary Filipinos who bear much of this burden.
But what can one expect from an administration that cannot even grant the workers their call for a wage increase to survive the crisis that has overwhelmed the country? How can President Arroyo say that Christmas can still be merry?
Gabriela Women's Partylist urges the people to unite against the rampant hunger, corruption and crisis that plague us.
We also urge all concerned to support House Bill 3219 filed by Rep. Liza Maza that aims to include LPG and kerosene in RA 7580 or the Price Act so that government can readily regulate their prices.
