Bosconians win crown By Mike T. Limpag Sun.Star Correspondent
Kyle showed no mercy as he banged in four goals to hand Don Bosco Technical Center the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high-school football crown after a 9-0 bashing of the University of Southern Philippines yesterday at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center field.
In the first game, the University of San Jose-Recoletos drew its second straight match, 1-1, against the USC-Boys High School.
Soriano sent notice that USP was in for a rough day as he banged in the icebreaker barely two minutes into the game, followed by his second goal in the ninth for a 2-0 lead.
USP got stuck in a bigger hole after John Tirol sneaked past the defense in the 24th before Soriano completed a hat trick in the 39th to make it 4-0 at the half.
Six points
The Panthers of coach Eleazar Toledo managed to put up a decent defense in the first 10 minutes of the second half before Geishan Nardo scored his first in the 50th and Soriano added another in the 52nd.
USP was in for more hurting as Nardo connected in the 57th and Jerome Batad added two in the 67th and 70th for their no-contest win.
The Bosconians racked up six points with two straight wins en route to the title after earlier blanking out USC, 4-0, in their first match.
Meanwhile, the USJ-R bungled its last chance to earn a win after another disappointing draw. Regin Lubinao gave San Jose the lead in the 48th but USC’s Gianne Cuevas evened the count in the 59th.
USJ-R will next face the Bosconians in the last day and with the way DBTC is playing, San Jose’s chances are next to zero.
