Largest fitness center in Cebu opens in Ayala
“Finally, we’re giving Cebuanos another lifestyle component, another first,” Cebu Holdings, Inc. president Rene Almendras said.
World-renowned Fitness First formally opened its doors last Dec. 6 at the fourth level of the Ayala Center Cebu.
The fitness center brought in over 70 electronic equipment from Italy, Australia, Taiwan and other parts of the world. According to Fitness First’s Andrew Phillips, these are the latest in technology as these also count one’s heart rate through the heart sensor.
“It even tells you whether you have to go faster or to slow down to suit what your body needs,” Phillips added.
Fitness First is one of the biggest fitness clubs in the Philippines. It has a core area, which is the first in Asia, and a free weights and personal training area. Its group exercise area can accommodate up to 60 people for a complete workout.
Entertainment while exercising
The center not only provides the latest exercise machines for its clients. “It also cares about how first-time exercisers feel when working out. That’s why we’ve provided a 21” colored TV for each equipment. Anything for the first time makes you feel really uncomfortable, the same with exercise. We want to help the exerciser’s mind's transition, that is why, we are trying to disassociate the mind from what is occurring in the body because the mind gets distracted. When you are so engaged in a movie, you become unaware of what you are doing. So, while you are watching that favorite flick, you continue to exercise without even knowing it,” Phillips explained.
The center has the latest movies in DVD and VCD so one can watch a flick using the provided headphones without getting distracted. It also has 23 shower rooms, over 500 lockers and shoe lockers and a member’s lounge, which offers free cola or coffee.
Fitness First is offering up to 90% off on joining fees until Dec. 15. “Access to membership fee is actually access to everything. If you’re still thinking twice about joining, you can always approach our staff for more briefing and a guided tour of our facilities,” Phillips said.
The center opens at 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Members can enter the Ayala premises early by presenting their membership card to the entry guard. For more information, one may call 234-2222. (Lalaine T. Go)
