Police seize luxury vehicle
By Aledel Gonzalez-Cuizon
Sun.Star Staff Reporter

A MAN driving a luxury car with dubious license plates landed in jail after allegedly attempting to bribe police officers at the North Reclamation Area Monday afternoon.

PO1 Tito Giva and PO1 Jesse Emmanuel Gaquit collared Alvin Fernandez, who failed to present proper documents for the Mitsubishi Pajero he was driving.

Acting on a tip, the two policemen went to a secluded area at the Mandaue City Boardwalk around 5:30 p.m. last Monday and saw Fernandez changing the plate number of the Pajero.

Phone

Fernandez reportedly threw his cellular phone away and got inside the vehicle.

Policemen then blocked his path and asked for the car registration.

They also noticed that the car’s front plate number (7C-FC-254) did not match the one at the rear (XDV 229).

While the policemen searched the vehicle, Fernandez was able to make a hurried phone call to someone and allegedly attempted to give police officers money.

Giva and Gaquit arrested him instead.

Plate numbers

Aside from his personal effects, two more plate numbers and airline tickets were found inside the Pajero.

Records of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) indicated that plate number XDV 229 belongs to a Suzuki light van while plate number WLU 649 belongs to a Nissan Serena.

Fernandez said he doesn’t know the owner of the Pajero and that he was just instructed to bring the vehicle to the SM City car park, where somebody else would pick it up.

Fernandez and the luxury vehicle arrived in Cebu last Monday morning on board a boat from Manila. The Pajero’s consignee is registered under Fernandez’s name.

The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) is turning over the investigation, including Fernandez and the vehicle, to the TMG.

MCPO director Edgardo Ingking said his office will coordinate with the TMG.
