Guardo to meet Seag committees Friday at City Hall

CEBU City Sports Commission chairman Jonathan Guardo is set to meet this Friday with the working committees for Cebu’s hosting of the Southeast Asian Games (Seag).

Guardo, the prime mover of the City’s co-hosting of the biennial event, has already picked the possible chairpersons of the 10 committees but chose not to reveal all the names yet.

“I already have the names of the different working committee chairmen but I still need their approval before I can release all of them. Anyway we’ve already sent the invitation letters to these persons and we hope they will be available this Friday,” said Guardo.

The meeting will be held at the conference room of Councilor Procopio Fernandez at the Cebu City Hall.

Committees

The committees include the management, secretariat, venues and infrastructure, marketing, finance, food and accommodation, medical, transportation and communications, traffic and security, volunteer and program and civic participation.

Guardo chose Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera to head the finance committee, while Dolly Suzara was selected to lead the volunteer, program and civic participation, and the food and accommodations and marketing will be handed to Cebu Visitors and Convention Bureau president Patrick Gregorio.

“I hope this people I mentioned would not refuse because they are the pillars of this project. But in any case they would say no because of their busy schedules, we still have a fallback,” Guardo added.

If councilor Pesquera accepts the task, she will need to start looking for the remaining P9.5 million of the P12 million total budget. Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has pledged only P2.5 million as the City’s contribution.

Cebu City will host six events – dancesport, judo, taekwondo, sepak takraw, pencak silat and karatedo. (RCM)
