Collector shot, yields P300T By Mia E. Abellana & Jovy S. Taghoy Sun.Star Staff Reporters
Three robbers, one armed with a .45 pistol, waylaid a junk shop collector, shot him and took P300,000 cash he was carrying in Ba-rangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City yesterday morning.
The 10:35 a.m. robbery was pulled off just some 60 meters away from the police station. The victim himself, though shot and wounded, ran the distance to report the matter to the police.
Hours later, a suspected snatcher was shot dead by police officers hot on his trail.
It was not yet clear who shot Ronron Allosada Go, 17, in the back at 6 p.m. in Sitio Sampaguita, Villagonzalo II, Barangay Tejero.
As of press time, the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) was waiting for PO3 Adonis Dumpit, PO3 Porferio Gabuya and other members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) and Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) to give them an official account of what happened.
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (CIIB) Chief Pablo Labra II, quoted in a dySS report, said Dumpit will be investigated for his alleged involvement in the shooting.
Dumpit, known for his relentless pursuit of suspected criminals, is out on bail for the alleged murder of a jeepney driver and the shooting of two bystanders a few months ago.
Victim refused
In the first case, the robbers, riding a black motorcycle, shot Crispin Sumanoy, 27, a collector of Maning Caña Junk Shop, when he refused to give up the shop’s cash. The robbery occurred shortly after Sumanoy withdrew the money from a bank.
Sumanoy was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for a gunshot wound between his chest and abdomen, and two slights wounds in his right wrist. He was later transferred to the Visayas Community Hospital on Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City.
He was attacked near Genergex Gasoline Station on Tres de Abril St., Punta Princesa, while Sumanoy was heading to the junk shop on Duterte St., Barangay Labangon.
Sumanoy had just withdrawn the cash from Metrobank-Mambaling Branch and was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle when the robbers blocked his path.
The robbers then asked Sumanoy to get off his motorcycle and asked for the money.
When Sumanoy didn’t give up the money, the robber with a handgun then shot him, while another robber took grabbed the pouch with the cash.
The robbers fled on board the motorcycle, while the wounded Sumanoy managed to run to the nearby Punta Princesa Police Station for assistance.
Capital lost
SPO2 Eugenio Teves immediately took Sumanoy to the CCMC, while the miscellaneous team of the police station launched a hot pursuit operation. The robbers, though, remained at large and unidentified.
The wife of junk shop proprietor Maning Caña, Pina, in a telephone interview told Sun.Star that the money was supposed to be used to buy scrap metals for their junk shop.
Caña said it was the first time they fell victim to robbers since they started doing business several years ago.
Although they lost money, Caña said she is still thankful that the robbers did not kill Sumanoy.
Autopsy
As for the second case, the TRS is the lead unit conducting the investigation.
Dumpit, when approached by reporters, declined to comment on the incident, saying there were too many responding officers.
The Homicide Section requested the Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) last night to conduct an autopsy and paraffin test on Go, who is now at the Oriental Funeral Homes.
Go was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) after sustaining gunshot wounds on his back.
Jimmy Villaruz, 41, who was in the area to gather leftover food for animals, was wounded after a stray bullet hit him in the stomach.
Go, along with a 17-year-old companion and a certain Jimmy, allegedly robbed two jeepney passengers in the North Reclamation Area at 5:15 p.m.
Grim search
Victims Nygiel Antecristo, 24, and Premia Tiwan, 29, told Sun.Star that after running away with their belongings, Go and his two companions got off the jeepney.
A police patrol car stopped and picked the two victims up and brought them around the roads in Barangay Tejero in search of the robbers.
They said that they were not able to hear any gunshots.
They only learned that someone had been shot when they were brought to the TRS office for questioning.
According to TRS investigators, members of the MPG brought Go and Villaruz to the CCMC.
Police also arrested Jason (real name withheld), 17, who was allegedly Go’s companion in the robbery.
Tiwan said it was Jason who punched her in the right cheekbone for not giving her handbag right away.
But Jason said it was not him but a certain Jun-jun Barok who was in on the robbery.
Civilian garb
Jason claimed that he and Villaruz were on the stepboard of the jeepney when gunshots started coming at them from a patrol car.
“I just ran because they started shooting. I got scared. But I was not part of the group,” Jason said.
He admitted knowing them, though, because they were neighbors in Villagonzalo.
He said it was Go who pointed a .38 revolver at Antecristo and Barok who hit Tiwan.
He was not able to get a clear look at the shooting policemen but said they were in civilian clothes.
Jason said the bystanders were the ones who stopped him from running and beat him up before turning him over to the police.
Jason’s brother Charles Trocio was shot dead a few meters away from the Parian Police Station by a mysterious “vigilante” after allegedly robbing a security guard of a cellular phone.
Go was also accused of robbing a 14-year-old girl of a necklace and bracelet in front of the old White Gold building in the North Reclamation Area about 1 p.m. that day.
