Speak out: Pier 4 protection racket By C. Sheppard Lapu-Lapu City
There is a serious problem in Pier 4, i.e., a “protection racket” that defies all rational logic.
In fact, it is a problem that does not exist at Pier 1 – only at pier 4!
The situation is like this: When entering the pier area with a private vehicle, you are greeted in the parking area by a group of men demanding money to assist you in parking your vehicle.
If you do not pay you will find your vehicle vandalized when you return.
Every month I travel to Tagbilaran City from Pier 4 and park my vehicle at the said pier. Each time these people demand money and every time I find my vehicle vandalized when I return.
Last Dec. 6, two men confronted me when I returned from Tagbilaran City wanting to “guide me” as I was to leave the parking area. When reaching my vehicle, I noticed that the right rear tire of my vehicle was low on air.
One of the men stated to his “friend” that the tire is flat because I never pay.
If you want tourism to flourish or business investments to come, you can’t afford to have any form of a “protection racket” within Cebu.
