BSA awards firms with SAM Advantage Certificate

MANILA—The Business Software Alliance (BSA), the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world, has awarded a total of 98 companies, two of them in Cebu, with the SAM Advantage Certificate.

This is a formal recognition that the companies have implemented a sound software asset management (SAM) policy.

The qualified companies were from various industries, including manufacturing, financial, and information technology and communications.

The two companies awarded in Cebu were the Cebu International School and Dash Engineering.

“We are pleased to award the SAM Advantage Certificate to these companies in recognition of their efforts in implementing a sound SAM policy in their business. It goes to show that these companies value their software and consider them as essential productivity tools that drive the efficiency of their organization,” said Ronald Chua, chairman of the BSA Philippines Committee.

This is the first batch of companies that are SAM-certified by the BSA under the SAM Advantage Program, which was launched last June.

The SAM Advantage Certificate is valid for one year and guarantees that BSA will not initiate any enforcement action against the company for illegal software use during its validity.

“Improper software management can lead to risks of using unlicensed software, which is tantamount to breaking the law. Proper management of software should be a priority if companies want to use IT to increase productivity and ensure security against hacking or virus attacks,” Chua said.

The resources and tools on SAM implementation are available on the BSA website at www.bsa.org/philippines.
