Int’l. choir champs’ concert set Dec. 26

HMTQCC won for the Philippines the gold medal and the highest distinction of “Olympic Champion” in the music of the religious category in the 2004 Choir Olympics in Bremen, Germany last July 12. This is their first major concert since Germany. A matinee for students will be held at the Elizabeth Mall Cinemathique 1 on Dec. 27 at 9:30 a.m. They are also set to perform in the US.

The concert is a project of the Sacred Heart Parish under the auspices of Fr. Ben Sim, S.J. Proceeds will go to the parish’s various social action and other church programs, including support of day-care centers, catechesis for children in public and non-sectarian schools, the formation of basic ecclesial communities, feeding sessions, help for the elderly, a scholarship program, political education and many more.

Over 300 choirs from 84 countries competed in 26 categories in the 2004 Bremen Choir Olympics, the biggest choral competition in the world. HMTQCC won three medals, despite being the smallest contingent and the youngest choir to compete in their category. Its other two medals are a silver for the children’s choir category and a silver for the folk song category.

The group consists of 58 young boys and girls aged seven to 17 from 18 different schools. A select group of 26 children has undergone intensive training.

HMTQCC will perform Lucio San Pedro’s Alelluya, Umawit Kang Masaya and Hosanna, some of the beautiful, awe-inspiring music that enabled them to win the coveted title, religious, modern and folk songs, Christmas carols along with some excerpts from the play Oliver.

Tickets, priced at P1,000, P800, P500 and P300, are available at Sacred Heart Parish and Sacred Heart Center. For inquiries, one may call the Sacred Heart Parish at 253-6479.
