CCPO restricts ‘trigger-happy’ cop while under probe
WHILE under probe by the Internal Affairs Service (IAS), PO1 Roy Jaime was also restricted to the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) for an investigation.
Jaime was arrested for firing his 9mm pistol and pointing an M16 rifle at residents of Barangay Bacayan on Christmas Day.
Acting Cebu City Police Office Director Melvin Gayotin yesterday reiterated the order for his men not to fire their guns unless for official purposes in the coming New Year.
Muzzled
A day before Christmas, Gayotin ordered policemen to cover with masking tape the muzzles of their guns if they are off-duty on Christmas Eve.
He clarified that those who will patrol the streets need not tape the muzzles of their guns.
This is a yearly measure adopted by police to prevent injuries caused by stray bullets fired during Christmas and New Year.
Jaime claimed residents smashed the windshield of his car and punctured his tires. But residents said he was just drunk.
Complainants
Gayotin said the private complainants will have to take care of the criminal complaint against Jaime.
Indiscriminate firing for police officers is considered a grave offense.
If found guilty, Jaime could be dismissed from service.
Jaime, a member of the MPG, was arrested by his own superior, Supt. Herman Lungayan, after the MPG received at least 12 complaints about him. (MEA)
