Rolling stores offering cheap food launched
MANILA?National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Chairman and Vice President Noli de Castro led Monday the launching of rolling stores at the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila.
The launch was in line with the collaboration of private sector groups with the Department of Agriculture and the National Food Authority for the ?Pagkaing Sapat at Abot-Kaya? (Adequate and Affordable Food) program.
De Castro believes that the rolling stores will be patronized, especially by indigents who will be given priority in their purchase of quality food items at affordable prices.
?I?m elated that the government has launched a program like the rolling stores that really helps the less fortunate people,? he said.
The Vice President added that the project is being undertaken at a time when prices of goods are rising mainly due to the unabated increases in oil prices and the fiscal crisis the country is experiencing, not to mention the recent calamities.
Among the basic goods that will be made available in the initial 21 rolling stores that will roam the streets are sugar, milk, pork, chicken and rice.
Providing support for the program are the Philippine Association of Broilers Integrators, Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Slaughterhouse Operators Association of the Philippines, and fishermen?s groups from the provinces of Batangas, Quezon and Pampanga.
