The Rooster Reigns
What's in store for you this year? Carmen Urbina brings to life our traditional New Year special.
The year 2005 (starting Feb. 9, to be exact) is the Year of the Green Wood Rooster.
Popular among mankind, the rooster lives a double life. Sometimes it?s a warrior in the cockpit, a macho guy in the harem or the poultry, a meal item, and even a tool of cleanliness as a feather duster.
In the Chinese zodiac, Roosters are entertaining and handsome (look at those lovely-long-legs-to-die-for) and generous (they sacrifice body and fluff for the sake of mankind).
They are generally creative (although their repertoire of songs is rather limited, don?t you think) and work marvelously under pressure. In fact, they do a lot more under pressure, and even inside a pressure cooker as tinola.
Although they don?t fly too high, the Rooster loves to travel, discover new horizons and learn new cultures and lifestyles.
Their crow is loud enough to awaken us. You got it ? a Rooster likes to boast and exaggerate not because it wants to appear superior. It?s just its nature, being a harbinger of a new day.
Roosters are good hosts and are no choosers of feather and claw. Rich or poor, the Rooster will welcome you under its wings.
All that activity can get to a Rooster, so there are times it seeks solitude on the highest branch.
You often see a Rooster nodding off its head. Don?t presume it is fast asleep. Roosters can be daydreamers - maybe of sailing to exotic lands on a paper boat - and builders of castles in the air.
A Rooster excels in giving advice and preaching to their feather-kind. The best way to handle a Rooster is to shower it with bottomless praise.
But enough crowing already. Here is Sun.Star Cebu?s yearly zodiac caper via cartoons.
