Nalzaro: New Year
By Bobby Nalzaro

Welcome 2005. And a happy New Year to one and all!

Another year and another set of challenges we have to face as we continue to struggle to survive in a world that is full of temptations. I don't know what is in store for us and for humanity for 2005, considered in the Chinese horoscope as the “Year of the Rooster.”

If we believe the Chinese, roosters are smart, independent and can survive on their own. They have many values and traits comparable with those human beings. Roosters are naturally aggressive and fighters—and they are willing to battle their enemies to the last breath.

Well, however the Chinese interprets our future, we should not just rely on it. We have to work hard to uplift ourselves and do our share in making our society and country better. Let us all pray that we will not experience similar calamities and tragedies that stuck the country last year.

Since this is the first day of 2005, allow me to extend my best wishes to some of our close friends and acquaintances.

I hope Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will change his attitude. There is no question he is a good administrator, his only problem is his arrogance.

To Vice Mayor Michael Rama, stand up for what you think is right. Do not succumb to or be influenced by the opinions of the mayor. Show your independence.

To Councilor Agustus Pe Jr., menos-menosi kunog gamay nang imong hambog.

To Councilor Jack Jakosalem, please help the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas collect what City Hall owes them. And since you are using a police patrol car, you might as well help the police maintain the peace through your “Wakwak Hunters’ Group.”

To Kumpare Cerge Remonde, keep up the good work. You might yet end up being in the administration's senatorial lineup come 2007.

To Rep. Raul Del Mar, here’s wishing for more projects like skywalks and flyovers in your district.
