Danao man bludgeons wife to death

A man suffering from a nervous breakdown killed his wife with a sledgehammer, then tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself yesterday morning in Barangay Guinacot, Danao City.

Rebecca Poras, 45, didn’t reach the Danao City District Hospital alive. She died of internal bleeding after her husband bashed her skull.

Her husband Willie is being treated at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) for two stab wounds in the abdomen.

Neighbors of the couple, police said, noticed a commotion on the second floor of the couple’s house past 10 a.m.

When no one came out of the house, the neighbors asked the couple’s 16-year-old househelp to check.

SPO4 Leonido Gomez, Danao City police desk officer on duty, said the couple was found lying in a pool of blood on the second floor of their house in Sitio Tabok, Barangay Guinacot.

A sledgehammer and a knife were found near their bodies.

Neighbors brought the couple to the hospital.

Gomez said that since there was no one else in the house at the time of the attack, Willie could have been the only one who killed Rebecca.

The couple earned a living selling candles in the city.

Gomez said neighbors reported that Willie was mentally disturbed. There were instances when he punched or hurled stones at passersby for no reason.

“Nag-nervous breakdown siya. Every time nga mosugmat nang iyang sakit mag-wild siya,” Gomez said. (He had a nervous breakdown. He sometimes went mad.)

Irate relatives of Rebecca went to the police station to tell authorities they intend to file a criminal complaint against Willie.
