The mania executives continued their dominance and scored an 11.5-3.5 win in the concluding second round over their Cebu counterparts in the 2005 Cebu Executive and Friendship Match at the Handuraw Learning and Leisure Café.

After earlier taking a slim 8-7 win in the first match, the visitors this time extended their edge handling the white pieces, yielding only three losses and a draw, while posting 11 wins in the 15-board encounter.

Manila’s National Master Dante Zuniga and five-time national executives champion NM Jenny Mayor both scored victories over Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association’s (Cepca) Ben Dimaano and NM Bombie Aznar.

Other winners were Chris Castellano over Jojo Muralla, Jerome Balico over Maggi Dionson, Francis Cabe over Dante Arguelles, and Nofre Reyes over Jonard Labadan, Louie Ramos over Mandy Baria, Domingo Cordero over Felix Balbona and Ramon Pangilinan over Fred Sandalo.

Cepca’s only winners were Rene Casia, William Retanal and Jobanie Tabada, who beat Rosulo Cabusura, Leonardo Deza and James Infiesto, respectively. Joe Atillo of Cecpa and Ariel Aton’s game ended in a draw.

The double-round robin, 15-board team event involving Cepca, Manila and the Misamis Executives and Professionals Chess Association was still in progress yesterday.
